TIPS ON COLLECTING     SAFETY PROCEDURE 
FIELD TRIP RULES
  • Field trips are open to all rockhounds who agree to abide by the AFMS Code of Ethics , the directions of the field trip leader and practice safe rockhounding.
  • Contact the field trip leader beforehand to sign up and for further information.
  • Remember to wear your name badge and sign in and out with the field trip leader.
  • A Consent and Assumption of Risk Waiver of Liability form must be signed upon arrival at meeting site.

Mar 30 - Apr 1 Tonopah and Fish Lake Valley, NV, for Apache tears, small limb casts, silicated wonderstone (fee)
Apr 13 Fallon, NV, Hidden Cave Tour (fee $2.00 each).
Apr 14-15 Fallon, NV, for wonderstone, crystals, jasper, pet wood, calcite and more.
Apr 21-22 Santa Lucia, CA, for agate, jade, jasper and fossils.
Apr 21 Paradise, CA, for rhodonite.
May 12-13 Fallon, NV canceled
May 26-28 Cedarville and Alturas, CA
Jun 1 (Sat) Denio, NV, for amethyst sage (on the way to Virgin Valley).
Jun 2 (Sun) Virgin Valley, NV, for opals.
Jun 9* Grass Valley, CA, for argillite, red, green banded. (Note: back up date for this trip is Sep 9)
Jun 14 - 17 El Dorado County Fair.  Society members host the Mining & Minerals Building. Over 30 case displays; grab bags!
Jun 21 Roaring Camp Gold, Pine Grove, CA, for  gold, swimming and fishing. Great trip for the entire family!  (Fee)

Jul 14-15 Alpine County, Morningstar Mine, CA, for sulfur minerals, crystal vugs; visit hot springs
Jul 28 - 29 Jade Cove, canceled
Aug 18 - 19 Meadow Lake, CA, old gold mine: silver, pyrite, petroglyphs.
Sep 8* (Backup date for June 9 trip).
Grass Valley, CA, for argillite (red, green banded).
Sep 15 Slate Mountain (near Georgetown, CA) for wavellite crystals, variscite.
Sep 29 Indian Diggins, Somerset, CA,  for marble, limestone, historical site (need FTL)
Oct 6 Coulterville, CA, Soapstone Ridge for soapstone, suiseki. (need FTL)
Oct 13 -14 Trona, CA, for halite, hanksite, etc.  Field trips are held during the famous Searles Lake Society Show; unique opportunity. (need FTL)
Oct 20 - 21 El Dorado County Mineral & Gem Society's Annual Rock & Gem Show, County Fairgrounds, 100 Placerville Drive, Placerville, CA
