The El Dorado Mineral and Gem Society
of Placerville, California, was founded in January
1949. The society's purpose is to learn about and share interests in rocks, minerals,
fossils, earth
sciences,
and the lapidary arts.
The society holds
monthly meetings,
has a
junior
program and sponsors a variety of special events including
field trips,
lapidary classes,
an
annual rock and gem
show and hosts
the county fair mineral
displays.
A the society publishes a monthly
Newsletter,
which is free to its members. Current activities of the society can be found on
this web site.
In its support of earth science education, the society contributes to college
scholarship funds, and members make
presentations at local elementary
schools and shares rock and material with them.
General meetings are open to the public and are held at the Senior Center,
937 Spring Street, Placerville, California, 7:00 P.M., on the 3rd Tuesday
of each month (except July and December when special meetings are held; locations are announced at the time of these events).
The Society is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. It is affiliated with the
California
Federation of Mineralogical Societies
and is a member of the
El Dorado County Chamber of
Commerce.
